For many people, electric cars are too expensive to be a viable alternative to their existing fossil fuel cars. Range is also a major factor when making a comparison between electric and fossil fuels.
The largest single cost of a new electric car is the battery pack. Some manufacturers try to keep the cost down by using a smaller battery. However, with a smaller battery comes a shorter range and so the problem has simply shifted.
By replacing the large upfront cost of the battery pack with smaller lease payments, the cost of a new electric vehicle can be significantly reduced.
The lease company makes the upfront investment in the cost of the battery pack and the owner of the vehicle can spread the cost over a period of time.
Battery Switching
The concept of an electric vehicle is excellent. But the practicality is far from ideal. The thought of making a journey that is longer than the range of the vehicle can be a hard to understand.
With a fossil fueled vehicle, it's simple. There are so many fuel stations on the nations roads meaning there is rarely one far away. In addition, refuelling takes a matter of minutes from empty to full.
For an electric vehicle however, the situation is very different. There are far fewer charging points available and charging from empty to full takes considerably longer. These two factors make the availability of the limited charging points even less.
By switching the battery for a fully charged battery at battery switching stations, the time spent on charging can be brought down to a matter of minutes.
The vehicle drives into the battery switching bay, the switching bay takes control of the car, unloads the battery or batteries that need replacing and replaces them with fully charged batteries. Control is then handed back to the driver and they can continue with their journey. The whole process is fully automated and can take just a few minutes.
The batteries are charged in the battery switching bays and added to the end of the queue ready to be swapped again.
